Ramadan (Ramjan) is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. It is believed to be the month when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs to develop self-discipline, gratitude, and closeness to Allah. The fast is broken at sunset with a meal called Iftar, and the pre-dawn meal is called Suhoor. Special prayers, known as Taraweeh, are offered at night. Charity and helping the needy are highly encouraged. The last ten days are considered the most sacred, especially Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree), which is believed to be better than a thousand months. Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, a joyous celebration marked by prayers, feasts, and giving to the less fortunate.
